The anime takes place in an alternative world where magic replaces science and practitioners are viewed with great respect, yet few are what they seem. It is a series that deconstructs the human heart amidst complex geopolitical conditions and violent change, exploring how virtues can be corrupted by our worst impulses.

1. Fullmetal Alchemist (2003)

In a world where magic replaces science, two brothers seek a Philosopher's Stone in this wildly imaginative anime. It's an adventure with a dark underbelly and some shocking twists that will stay with you for days.

It's also one of the most beautiful anime you'll ever see. The animation is gorgeous, the character designs are unique, and the dark underlying themes are masterfully handled.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a great series that will appeal to many different types of people. It's a bit of an acquired taste, but if you love alchemy and adventure, this is definitely worth checking out.

2. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa (2005)

The first Fullmetal Alchemist anime adaptation was released in 2003. It is unusual in that it diverges from the manga part of the way through and has an anime-original ending.

However, the Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009) anime series is strictly based on the manga and has an ending similar to the manga. So you can watch both shows and decide which one is best for you.

The first anime series also has a filler story that is skippable. This isn’t a bad thing, but it does deviate from the original manga story and makes some minor changes.

3. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009)

Brotherhood has a great cast of characters and is one of the best English dub anime's you'll find. It's incredibly well designed with characters that are portrayed in a way you will love them, root for them and want to see them win.

The story itself is also fantastic with some of the most interesting themes you'll ever encounter in an anime series. It tackles ideas such as eugenics, genocide and what it means to be human.

It does this in a way that makes it an absolute emotional roller-coaster at times, with many moments that will have you screaming "holy sh!t!" and feeling a sense of sadness. It's a very unique and interesting story line and is an anime that has a special place in my heart.

4. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Endless Waltz (2007)

If you’re looking for the ultimate anime experience with action, drama, and a lot of twists and turns, Fullmetal Alchemist is definitely worth checking out. In fact, it’s one of the most popular series in history and is still a top rated anime franchise to this day.

However, many people are confused about whether they should watch the original or Brotherhood version first. This is because both have distinct storylines with different endings and are based on different mangas.

In this series, Edward Elric tries to restore his dead brother’s body by transmuting metal to look like him. However, he finds that the military government and mysterious monsters are watching him closely.

5. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Endless Waltz: Special Edition (2009)

The first time I ever saw it, it was tucked away in the vaults of my father-in-law. The rest of the family can attest to its hefty contents. The movie has been re-released in multiple incarnations since its inception as a major motion picture in the early 1990s, and can be found on video and on DVD in many of the kinks. The title holder is one of my favorites for its witty writing and ephemeral characters. There is no doubt that this movie is the gold standard in my book. The title holder has been a proud member of our family for over twenty years.

6. Fullmetal Alchemist: The Endless Waltz: Special Edition – The Final Chapter (2017)

One year after the war between Earth and its space colonies ended with the formation of the Earth Sphere Unified Nation, the Gundam pilots (except Wufei Chang) decide to disarm and send their suits into the sun.

However, the peace they seek is suddenly threatened by a rebellion led by Mariemaia Khushrenada, Treize’s illegitimate daughter. Now, the Gundam pilots are tasked with rescuing their mobile suits from the rebels and restoring the world’s peace.

As they pursue their goal, the Gundam pilots encounter Elektra Ovilo of Cherious Medical Pharmaceutical Company, a former scientist who is now a cyborg. The two engage in a battle for control of the vaccine and a battle for the lives of everyone on Mars.
